ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
RADIOACTIVE WASTE DISPOSAL COST SCHEDULE
EFFECTIVE July 1, 2009

Another fiscal year is upon us and this requires EH&S to determine waste prices for the next year. With all the financial issues burdening the economy and the University, it has been a challenge to find the best way to recover these costs with the least impact on you, the permit holder.  This year we have been able to reduce costs within the program resulting in a reduction of over $20,000 for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

In an effort to be more efficient, we are also changing our waste billing process. This change will help Permit Holders and EH&S with budget planning. It will also reduce time spent processing radioactive waste as well as paperwork. All Permit Holders with active permits as of July 1, 2009 will be charged at the beginning of the fiscal year a yearly flat rate fee. These fees will be billed in July and will cover the entire 2009-2010 Fiscal Year.  Remember this fee will cover ALL radioactive waste picked up within the next fiscal year!

The 2009-2010 annual fee effective July 1, 2009 :  $318.61

To help close out the current fiscal year and lessen the cost to the Permit Holder, there will be NO radioactive waste pick ups for the last two Tuesday’s in June. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the above information, feel free to contact us.

** Disposal of mixed waste can be extremely expensive. Approval of constituents PRIOR to generation is necessary! If you are generating liquid which has both a hazardous chemical and radioactive material contact Bill Leonard (5-5616 or wl68@cornell.edu) or Mike Lonon (5-6995 or ml107@cornell.edu) for more information or questions.
