The Department of Environmental Health and Safety's Fire Protection Section provides the Cornell Community with a variety of emergency and non-emergency services. Section staff are on duty 24 hours a day to respond to campus emergencies and activated smoke detectors. The section also provides a variety of safety related services in the areas of fire prevention and training, fire protection system testing and inspection and disaster planning and preparedness.

- Respond to fire and trouble alarm activations
- Shutdown fire alarm equipment for maintenance related work
- Test and inspect fire alarm equipment for proper operation
Fire Suppression Systems
- Respond to system activations
- Shutdown fire sprinkler equipment for maintenance related work
- Test and inspect fire sprinkler systems for proper operation
Fire Extinguishers
- Inspect fire extinguishers
- Install new fire extinguishers and relocate existing extinguishers as needed
- Facilitate recharge and repair of discharged and damaged extinguishers
