    SAFETY EDUCATION AND TRAINING

    • Safety Education Catalog
    • Major Training Requirements

Federal and state regulations require that employees with certain job responsibilities receive training. For more information, please refer to the university Health and Safety Policy, Appendix B, Training Requirements for Employees. For example, the federal Hazard Communication Standard requires that employees routinely exposed to hazardous chemicals receive training, and the OSHA Laboratory Standard requires that laboratory workers who may be exposed to chemicals receive training.

    • "Chemical Safety for Laboratory Workers"

OSHA regulations (Hazard Communication and the Laboratory Standard) mandate that all laboratory workers who may be exposed to chemicals receive training. This program includes information on the OSHA Laboratory Standard, toxicology, material safety data sheets, and videos on laboratory safety. It also covers potential hazards associated with chemical usage including recognizing signs and symptoms of overexposure and proper responses to spills, leaks, or other exposures.

    • "Chemical Safety for General Service Workers"

OSHA regulations (Hazard Communication Standard) mandate that all employees who use chemicals as part of their work responsibilities receive training. This course includes information on the safe handling of chemical products, material safety data sheets, product labels, and personal protective equipment. It also covers potential hazards associated with chemical usage including recognizing signs and symptoms of overexposure and proper responses to spills, leaks, or other exposures.

    • "Safety for Office Workers"

This program includes information on office chemical products and videos on general office safety and computer workstation ergonomics.

    • "Computer Workstations - Ergonomics"

This workshop presents a video that describes the ergonomic factors to consider in computer workstation design. It includes a discussion on work practices to minimize back, neck, and eye fatigue, and strategies for avoiding carpal tunnel syndrome.

    • "Bloodborne Pathogens"

OSHA regulations (Bloodborne Pathogens Standard) mandate that employees who are determined at risk of occupational exposure to human blood or other potentially infectious materials participate in a training program. This course covers an explanation of the standard; information on the epidemiology, symptoms, and modes of transmission of bloodborne pathogens; and explanations of the exposure control plan, personal protective equipment, the hepatitis B vaccine, and emergency procedures.
        This training is required annually.
